Small but GREAT

I was recently reminded by the Lord not to despise small beginnings. In fact, in the scriptures, written in the book of Zechariah, it says,  “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin... “ (Zechariah 4:10 NLT).  We often hear, “GO BIG OR GO HOME,”  and I’m not opposed to the saying, but what if going “Big” can lead to frustrations? Of course, it’s great to maximize the effort for whatever you are pursuing, but the start of something doesn’t need to be big and flashy. Like the scripture says, the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.

Here’s the thing ﹣ the beginning of a season, an adventure, a relationship, a break-up, a career opportunity, a new home, a God-given assignment, or anything we find ourselves pursuing can steer a lot of emotions, especially when trying to find our rhythm. However, the goal is to start the work. Start the healing process, start the business endeavor, just start your start. The truth is, there is beauty in small beginnings.

The Beauty in Small Beginnings

In God, small things become great. I’m reminded of the story in the Bible where Jesus feeds the five thousand. He only had five loaves of bread and two fish from a young boy’s lunch. He blessed the food, and the Father provided an increase. This reminds me that we should bring our small beginnings to Jesus. Our small produce the impossible in the hands of God. Culture can teach us ways to get what we desire, but when we bring our full selves to Jesus, He’ll do something great within us.

No matter how small our starting point may be, we shouldn’t dismiss it or consider it unworthy.  A humble beginning, when aligned with the Lord, can lead to profound wholeness. Taking someone looking to date, even solo dates, can yield significant results. Through this journey with the Lord, you’ll learn more about yourself rather than just focusing on the Lord revealing a husband. For those on a weight-loss journey, consistently working out, no matter how small, cultivates discipline.  With God, the results extend beyond just shedding pounds; the great is seen through the transformative inner work as the Lord starts to heal you from past traumas and insecurities. Lastly, having a God-given assignment. The small beginning lies in your obedience. Trust that greatness will follow, as He needs to enter whatever space you are sent to.

You see, great with God isn’t about us getting our hearts' desires answered.  Great are the results we see because of the glory God receives. I’d say, go with God, because He is great.

TO THE READER

I had a small wedding, but I have a GREAT Covenant. I have a small start with business, but I serve a GREAT God. The Lord rejoices to see the work begin. Whatever God is asking of you, just start. You may start with little, but you’ll end with much (Job 8:7). It may very well be a small start to a big assignment, relationship, business, or even break-up. Whatever you do ﹣ keep it sacred and keep it holy. With Jesus, your small will produce great.

So I pray for whoever receives this. I pray that you extend an invitation to the Lord by inviting Him into your small beginning. With such an invitation, all nerves, anxiousness, and hastiness are removed because the God of peace has invaded your world. I pray the Lord grants you excitement in your small beginning. That you begin to delight in what you are pursuing, and not think about the outcome or the unknown. That you don’t chase after likes, algorithms, “Hey, Beautiful”, but you delight yourself in the Lord. I pray that even as you start the work of whatever’s before you, you like and enjoy the woman you are becoming. That you are not on your timeline, culture’s timeline, but only Jesus’ timeline according to His will and purpose for your life. I pray that as you start the work, you find community. I pray that you find a sense of belonging because you need a place to feel free.

Whatever the “work” may be:

  • Healing

  • Entrepreneurship

  • Dating

  • Discovering a Community

  • Relationships (of any type)

  • Weight Loss

  • Motherhood

Allow Jesus to turn your small into GREAT. He rejoices over seeing the work within you begin!

Love, Kevonna 🌻
